The Kazakh subsidiary of ratiopharm International GmbH was officially opened on 23rd March 2000 in the city of Almaty, thereby securing ratiopharm’s activity in the Republic of Kazakhstan. From the first day of operation, Mady-Omar Sabirov has been the Head of Representation.
In terms of size, Kazakhstan is the second-largest country of the former Soviet Union, with an area of around 2,717,000 km2. There are different natural and climatic zones: from forests to deserts, from steppes to high mountains. The highest point in the Republic (Talgar Peak) towers above the highest point in the Alps (Mont Blanc). The country lies in central Asia on The Great Silk Road, which from the 4th Century B.C. promoted trade between Europe and Asia. Contemporary trade and transport routes grew out of The Great Silk Road, and even today have geopolitical significance.
Kazakhstan is home to 15 million people, comprising over 120 nationalities. The country is rich in mineral deposits and organic raw materials (Kazakhstan has the world’s fourth-largest available oil and gas reserves) and is the largest exporter. Agriculture is also developed. The country’s President is N. A. Nazarbaev. The State attaches great importance to the social and medical well-being of its citizens. In the current climate, the Government realises that it is impossible to meet the population’s medical requirements with locally produced pharmaceuticals, so it places great emphasis on importing ready-made products. It capitalises on foreign investments in the medical sphere, and provides investors with favourable conditions. Proof of this strategy is seen in the presence over 100 subsidiaries and joint ventures from 50 countries across the globe. It is not only direct imports that help the country, but also the use of Kazakh productions lines manned by a local workforce, which has a positive effect on the national economy as a whole.
The ratiopharm International GmbH representation is in its sixth year of working on the Kazakh pharmaceuticals market. Throughout this period, the subsidiary has been highly successful:

The company’s main portfolio consists of original products – such as Ambene, Hylak-forte, Aktiferrin, Hepabene, Tussamag and Pregnavit – and generics such as Ambrobene, Candibene, Cromoglin, Immunorm, Diclofenac-ratiopharm, Trimetazidin-ratiopharm, N-AC-ratiopharm and Atenolol-ratiopharm.
The representation’s main priority lies in the market launch of generic products with INN+ratiopharm. Other work includes participation in the State programme to improve the health of future generations in the Republic. The company occupies a strong position on the Kazakh pharmaceuticals market.
